Now that you have finished taking your scuba course and have already gained certification, what's next? Of course, the most thrilling part is plunging into the open water. This is the much awaited part. However, before you can actually dive, there are some things that you have to prepare - your scuba diving equipments for instance.
All the equipment that you will ever need is available in all diving schools. You don't even have to buy everything (the gas tanks, regulators), because you can just rent it. However, you would want to have your own basic equipment such as masks, fins, gloves, boots, and snorkels. It is true that you have to consider the 'financial' aspect of diving, most especially if you want to be a regular diver. If you're tight on budget but you really want to invest on scuba diving equipment, it is wise to buy your gear gradually. Purchase the essential equipments first.
Before anything else, purchase a mask. How can you enjoy the beauty of the underwater world if you don't have a mask, right? Get a mask that fits well and has a good quality. Try it on first and make sure that it fits snuggly. There are various types of masks; some have a silicone seal, which is better, as opposed to a rubber seal that gets destroyed easily upon exposure to the salty sea and the scorching heat of the sun. There are also more advanced masks that have a built-in dive computer.
You should also purchase your own basic snorkel equipment. Make sure that it is of good quality and has a purge valve. This purge valve is essential to easily get rid of water from your snorkel, if necessary.
One of the basic scuba diving essentials that you should purchase are fins. There is a wide variety of scuba fin types that is available in the market. These include the traditional paddle scuba fins, split fins, and force fins. Although there are many styles and fins that you can choose from, what's important is that you purchase one that has good quality, and of course, fits well. If you're comfortable in your own fins, then you can function well underwater. Who knows, you might get a kick out of it too!
You should also buy scuba boots of your own. Aside from keeping your feet warm, scuba boots will protect your feet when you walk on surfaces that are hot or rocky.
You might also want to purchase gloves. Just like the boots, gloves will keep your hands warm and protect it when you pick or touch objects under the sea.
Let's not forget your wetsuit! It is important that you have your own, because a wetsuit should fit you really well so that you can move with utmost comfort. A wetsuit will keep your body warm and prevent you from having hypothermia - a condition in which your body temperature falls into an extremely low degree.
There are other 'scuba accessories' that you can purchase. But to get you started, purchase the essentials and gradually invest on other more important equipment.
